Hello everyone!

Hello! My name is Melanie Garland and I am 22 years old. I recently just celebrated my one year wedding anniversary on May 15th with a wonderful man named Logan. He is actually the reason I decided to minor in IDM and therefore the reason I had to take this class. My actual major is called Child and Family Studies. I will soon graduate in December and then start my masters program. We have five kids- two ferrets named Charlie and Woodstock, one fish named Linus, one turtle named Peanut, and a very adorable puppy named Franklin. My time in Maryville is spent in working at Subway and the Elementary School, golfing with my husband, swimming, horseback riding, and scrapbooking.

I have attended Northwest for three years now and I really like the school. The small classes and the relationships you build with your teachers are something that I really enjoy. It is also something that can be rare with the large schools. I also like Maryville itself. We currently live here year round and I like the atmosphere of the small town life. You need to only drive a couple of minutes and you are already surrounded by farm life and the country. I think the biggest thing I like about Northwest is the amount of opportunities it gives you to get involved. There are many organizations on campus and it's easy to find your place in one of them. I also think the schools does a good job letting students know of real world opportunities. Another thing that everyone enjoys about Northwest is that it is so up to date on technology. For example, all the students on campus next year will have the opportunity to recieve Blackberry. Plus, everyone gets a computer in their dorm and in the suites and apartments the students are given a notebook computer. That was one reason I found Northwest appealing. In a world where technology is changing so much, the school does an excellent job keeping up. I will also have to say that pretty much everyone is friendly. And of course, the campus is gorgeous with lots of great landscaping, trees, and bushy squirrels. Oh yeah, I was going to tell you about the weather. Se in Missouri, you can never really tell what it's going to be like. One day it is sunny and warm and you can wear shorts and a tank top but then the next day it is cold and you need pants and a coat!

Here's a picture of me and my husband at a Northwest football game.

Well, I hope you've enjoyed our teacher as much as we've enjoyed yours. Good luck in the class and if you ever come to the United States don't be afraid to look me up. Feel free to email me at mkgarland@gmail.com

Hello students from Hogeschool Zuyd

Hey,
My name is Mark Holthaus, I am 6'4'', love sports, movies, girls, and I am currently a senior at Northwest Missouri majoring in Advertising. Northwest is a good school that has many staff so that the student can interact with their professor on more one on one basis. This University is determined in to achieve a higher form of higher learning. We a fully operational brand new, state of the art Macintosh computer lab that enables us to get a head start on web design, print advertising, and much much more for Mass Communication majors. Here, you really get a chance to explore how the real agencies create their own Advertising Campaigns. You get a feel for what the 'Real' world is expecting. I'm sure I would feel completely lost over there as I am sure you would here. However, its cool that we are learning basically the same thing at the same time and that the technology that we have today allows us to communicate like were are right now. Good Luck with all your goals and maybe one day soccer(futbol) will catch on over here like it has over there.

Maggie Robinson and Life at Northwest

Hi everyone! My name is Maggie Robinson and I am a Senior at Northwest Missouri State University. I am majoring in IDM and concentrating on New Media. I am originally from Lenox, Iowa. Which is located in Iowa about 50 miles from here. So really it's not to far from home but it's not that close either.

I really enjoy the campus here at Northwest. There has never been a time in the four years I have been here that I have ever been lost and didn't know where I was going. All of the buildings are about a 3 minute walk away from each other so really they are close. Also, the campus is beautiful. There are trees and flowers everywhere. So really the campus makes you feel like you are in the middle of the woods and it is just really relaxing. Oh, and you can't forget the friendly squirrels. When I first came to Northwest people would always say that the squirrels are so friendly on campus, and they are. I am not saying that you can go up and touch them and bring them home as a pet, but for squirrels they let you get really really close to them. So I found that really interesting.

Northwest has always been full of very friendly students. I know that I will come from this place with tons of new friends. I have had some of the best times of my life here and I would never want it any other way. The thing about Northwest is that you always wave and say hi to about everyone you see just because everyone is that nice. There has never been one moment in my four years that I have ever been uncomfortable. Northwest also offers a lot of organizations and extra curricular activities for the students here. So there is never a dull moment here.

This is me (in the yellow shirt) and 3 of my best friends I have met at Northwest.

Northwest has been a great experience for me as a student. There are tons of memories that I will pull away from this place. I really hope that a lot of you think seriously about coming and visiting us at Northwest because like the saying goes "Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat". I look forward to hearing from you.

Irving Welcomes you to Northwest

Hi,

To start off my name is Irving Hernandez and I am from Mexico. My major is broadcasting with a French minor. I'm also studying Finnish on my own as I will be moving to Finland after graduation. Some of the stuff I do here when out of school is just play soccer, take Hapkido classes and work.

This is my second year here at Northwest and so far i can't complain too much. Maryville is a small town so one can't expect a lot to see. Life here is calm and very social among college peers. If you are looking for something more to see Kansas City is an hour away and Omaha two. The campus is always being taken care of and renovated so expect to see a modern campus. Northwest has many facilities for recreation. International students organize trips also throghout the year too. What I like the most about Northwest is that there is many international students and you are always learning something new from them. Overall i think if you can come here and visit it would be a good experience. I know for some schools students dont have to pay anything to study here. For example my girlfriend is from Finland and all she had to pay was her plane ticket because the school could cover a semester.

If any of you are interested about studying here the check out the IIC. This is the department at our school that takes care of the international students.

I had a great time here studying with Sylvia and eating salmiakki was good too. If anyone has questions e-mail me at irving83@hotmail.com I'm always here to help. Hope to see some of you.

Irving.

PJ Eldred - Why Northwest?

"Verwelkoom naar" Northwest. (I really hope I said that right.) My name is Paula Jane Eldred but I go by PJ. I was named after my Mom so going by PJ makes life much easier for the both of us. I am 23 years old and a Senior here at Northwest. I am a Broadcasting Major and an IDM Minor.

I, beyond belief, love this school. I was a Resident Assistant (RA) for two years where I was able to help Freshman students and Transfer students with the transition into campus life. I enjoyed my time as an RA and I encourage anyone who gets the chance to give it a try. The college life that Northwest provides is hard to beat. The beauty of this school is well known in Missouri. In the two years that Northwest has been eligible they have won the Missouri Quality Award which is the strongest State-level award in Missouri and the US. Northwest has won it for its outer beauty and the beauty that the students and faculty bring to it. This is truely my home away from home. I too, like Elizabeth, live over 5 hours away and never get the opportunity to go home. The people here are so great and I have never felt alone. The love and friendship that radiates from this place is unbelievable. I love it here, can you tell? :-)

More about me, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MOVIES, beyond that I enjoy reading, drawing, playing the piano, going for walks, nature and everything about it, I enjoy a lot of things and could go on forever but I won't bore you much longer. I really enjoy Pen Pals both classic, with snail mail, and also modern, with email. I currently have Pen Pals in Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, Great Britian, and Korea. I would love to have another. If any of you are interested drop me an email at Peege27@hotmail.com

It has been an enjoyable two weeks with Sylvia and I hope you all had a great time with Jacquie.

Much Love to you all and Peace,
:-) PJ

Also, Rene I loved your green shoes (Green is the Northwest School color) and Happy Belated Birthday Marcia.

Maryville is da Bomb

Hi ya'll,

My name is Sarah Dulinsky. I am 21 years old and am going into my last year of college. I really enjoy Maryville a lot. Even though it is a small town, there is always plenty to do (well not all the time but I am always creating things to do.) I am a journalism major and a visual journalism minor that is why I am taking Jacquie's class. We really enjoyed talking to your teacher Sylvia and finding out about your country. I would love to study abroad and come see you all. That would be awesome. It would totally rock.

What I love most about Northwest, is the beauty. We have so much history in this school and it is very interesting to find out about it. I just reacently did a paper for another class on the history of or Administration Building and I was surprised that it carried a complicated past. The school used to be a tree farm so there are trees everywhere of every kind. It is so beautiful!!!!!

Some of the things that I enjoy doing are reading, writing, and hanging out with my friends. I work at a nursing home and I have to take 4 classes this summer which should be fun. I am almost done with two so I guess it is all good.

Well I hope to see you guys sometime. America is a wonderful place. I bet where you live is awesome as well. I hope someday I can come visit you guys and I hope you will come visit me.

Good talking to ya, peace out,

Sarah Dulinsky

Elizabeth Harashe loves life at Northwest!!!

Hello! My name is Elizabeth Harashe. I'm 20 years old and a junior here at Northwest. Of course I'm an IDM major with a minor in Agriculture Science. I grew up a little over 5 hours from Maryville. It was a big change to go that far away from all my friends and family at home.

The thing I love most about Northwest is the people here. Everyone is so friendly. It just seems like I'm totally at home and actually, Northwest has become a home to me. I've developed many friendship that now just seem like real family members.

Northwest is great about giving lots of options to get involved with campus activities such as organizations. I am involved in several but the one that I am most dedicated to is my sorority, Sigma Alpha. (A sorority is an organization for just girls.)

elizabeth & becca

This is Rebecca, one of my sorority sisters & also my best friend, and me (on the left).

The other reason why I love Northwest is the campus itself. The campus is very beautiful. There seems to almost always be something that is blooming. There are trees, shrubs, and flowers everywhere. I just feel totally at home here.

The campus is just the right size, not too big or small. It seems when I walk across campus, I can always run into at least one person I know but also see many new faces. There is always someone new to meet here.

Northwest and Maryville is a great community. I love living here and going to school. I wouldn't want to be attending college anywhere else but Northwest! Hope you come to visit! We'd love to meet you!

Lindsey Hunken Welcomes you to Northwest!

My name is Lindsey Hunken. I am 22 years old and a senior here at Northwest Missouri State University. Just to give you a little background information: I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri which is in the Midwest. I love to jog, hang out with friends, spend time with my boyfriend, travel, and read. Currently I work three jobs to keep money coming in. I love going to Northwest. It really is a great school. It is very small but that is good for me because I like the small class sizes. I started going to school here in the fall of 2001, and I have really grown to appreciate the benefits of going to a small school. The teachers know you by name, I feel comfortable going to ask for help when I need it because I feel like I know them, and I've never once gotten lost. Anyway, I hope that you will all consider coming over here sometime to study. I studied abroad in 2003 in Australia and it was the best experience of my life. I know that there are a lot of complications when travelling but please know that you are always welcome here at Northwest.

Bilal Clarance welcomes you to Northwest

To the students of Hogeschool Zuyd, my name is Bilal Clarance. I have attended Northwest Missouri State University for two year and I have been very happy here. I am from Denmark and have been in America for 4 years getting my degree in IDM - computer science. The school here is very nice. We have one of the best campuses I have seen in Missouri and I have been on a few campuses because I play basketball here and therefore visit other schools all the time to play against them. The best part of this school is that the teachers are very helpful and above all they have time to help you seeing that school doesn't hold 30000 students on contrary to some other large schools. Life for students is nice and they have a special department for international students. It is an organization that gives you a great community life among other people from outside nations of every corner of the World. It has been an amazing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I welcome you and if you have any questions you are welcome to email me at: bclarance@gmail.com
